waterford

Sunday, August 28th, 2005

good morning, it’s sunday morning & i’m on dec & laura’s floor in waterford. Last night we we out on the town with a group from boards.ie that laura & dec know & we went to geoffs & oxygen. The music wasn’t to my taste but we made the most of it and the hoff hair…photos to follow. Thanks dec & laura

Oh, we finally got a house for next year-a 5-bed in the cedars. It’ll need a good clean but houses are so much more fun than appartments and we’ll be near all the essentials-cinema, shop, chip/pizza shop & bus stop

a big shout out to george, winging his way across the usa, hopefully coming out the other side unharmed. Speaking of which, get well soon louise -fractured ankle & torn ligaments, right?

It has been a fairly quiet weekend here, the formula 1 & hurling were great to watch & added a little bit of logic to my sudoku solving program. Sat was really busy in dunnes- they’re ordering twice as much stock as normal i guess cos people are still coming to see the new store including mike, john & billy, all on sat. That means staying late quite a few evenings & constant pressure. btw the parkway is NOT closing, we are open 24/7, there is a meat counter & the eggs are just before the hot-food bar.

Tom’s family are also legendary, helping me with this car business etc. I nearly got fleeced but thats a long story.

Figure this one out

Many many years ago when I was twenty three,
I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be.
This widow had a grown-up daughter
Who had hair of red.
My father fell in love with her,
And soon the two were wed.

This made my dad my son-in-law
And changed my very life.
My daughter was my mother,
For she was my father’s wife.
To complicate the matters worse,
Although it brought me joy.
I soon became the father
Of a bouncing baby boy.

My little baby then became
A brother-in-law to dad.
And so became my uncle,
Though it made me very sad.
For if he was my uncle,
Then that also made him brother
To the widow’s grown-up daughter
Who, of course, was my step-mother.

Father’s wife then had a son,
Who kept them on the run.
And he became my grandson,
For he was my daughter’s son.
My wife is now my mother’s mother
And it makes me blue.
Because, although she is my wife,
She’s my grandma too.

If my wife is my grandmother,
Then I am her grandchild.
And every time I think of it,
It simply drives me wild.
For now I have become
The strangest case you ever saw.
As the husband of my grandmother,
I am my own grandpa!!

Car

The car is causing me a lot of heartache at the moment, well it’s my fault really. Not sure whether I’ll be on the road again soon but watch this space….

Podcasts

Monday, August 8th, 2005

I’ve discovered podcasts….I installed iTunes for other people’s iPods - Tom, Kerry & Emilia’s friend, Quentin and saw this thing about podcats in the preferences.
Later I heard that the BBC had started podcasting and being insanely curious I checked it out. Turns out that they are just mp3s of radio programmes etc and you can download them to your PC with a whole load of programs. I’m using iTunes and I’ve already enjoyed some film reviews from BBC radio 5 and “This week in Tech” is also quite humourous for geeks

btw I also applied for my driving test online (gulp) www.drivingtest.ie I chose ennis cos of the waiting list and decent pass rate…

Pics of “Field”

Before:
Before
and after:
After
and the other side of the house:
Other Side

The whole thing took about 4 full tanks of petrol, about 2hrs per tank. I also cut the bit near the car garage, around my grandmothers house but there’s still a bit at the back of the house to do

Weekend

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

Still haven’t looked at that Yaris in Charleville - brother came down with a cold yesterday but we did get to the bank and so the finance is being arranged as I write.
Also, I saw an ad in a local paper which sparked my interest - bigger car, better price but without the security of buying from a dealer….
Also the bog was postponed, not by me ;-) and so I cut the grass around our house. That sounds trivial but we have a field rather than a garden or lawn and it was very overgrown. I’d post a before and after pic but the wireless LAN in UL is down so I’m using a regular student PC.
I hope everyone else had a good weekend anyway
